Southampton Labour The Labour Party in Southampton
People Make Southampton
It’s the people that make Southampton. In our city, Labour has a track record of putting people first.
Back Labour’s plan on Thursday 2 May
We stand for:
A Family City
Let’s create a city where everyone thrives:
- Make roads safer by limiting traffic speeds in residential streets so children are safe to play outdoors.
- Make it easier and safer for kids to walk or wheel to school.
- Clamp down on bad landlords.
- Work with our tenants to develop a charter so that they know what they can expect from the Council as a landlord to give them a stronger role in holding the Council to account.
- Work closely with major employers, to create jobs and apprenticeships and help people at every point of their life to get a job.
A Safer City
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and neighbourhoods:
- Fight crime by getting the council to work with the police to target shoplifting.
- Improve the local environment by clamping down on fly-tipping with CCTV.
- Tackle anti-social behaviour with Southampton Community Wardens.
- Support Police and Community Together meetings, giving you a direct line to the police and the community safety teams.
A Greener City
A greener city is a healthier city:
- Clean up air pollution and support local initiatives to make the city greener.
- Stop the sewage in the Itchen by seeking legal protections and hold Southern Water accountable for it.
- Become a zero-carbon city council by 2030.
- Provide flood defences for areas threatened by rising water levels.
- Provide easy access to outdoor spaces for families.
- Make it easier and safer to walk and cycle around the city.
- Work with bus operators to improve reliability and frequency, and bring in new routes so that more people can choose the bus.
An Affordable City
The Tories crashed the economy but Labour is on your side in tough times:
- Deliver more affordable homes.
- Provide support to make homes more energy efficient to help with bills.
- Commit to eliminating the £37 per week difference people who live and work in Southampton get in their wages each week compared to people who commute in.
- Fight for resources that the city deserves.
- Help with the cost-of-living crisis through our warm welcome initiative.
- Continue to offer £1 bus fare in the evening.
A Place to be Proud of
Every part of the city deserves investment:
- Get our local streets thriving and bring empty shops back into use.
- Work with local communities to tackle neighbourhood issues, so that even more people can feel proud of their local area.
- Protect street cleaning budgets.
- Encourage our people to shop local to help Southampton business and support the local economy and community, retaining wealth locally.
