Councillor John Savage
Councillor for Portswood
Cllr John Savage has represented Portswood ward since 2016, and serves as Cabinet Member for Green City and Net Zero, with responsibility for waste and recycling services.
John has spent most of his working life in education. Now that his children are grown up, he wanted to continue contributing to his community by serving as a councillor. His professional background has given him a strong belief in the importance of opportunity, fairness, and long-term planning for future generations.
Outside of the council, John is passionate about film and music—he plays tenor saxophone and guitar, and enjoys singing. He also loves travel, sailing, and spending time outdoors camping and walking.
John’s political focus is on tackling the climate crisis, championing sustainability, and making Southampton a greener city for the future. He is committed to ensuring waste and recycling services work effectively for residents while supporting the city’s transition to net zero.
For John, being a councillor is about listening to residents, understanding their priorities, and making sure Southampton is a clean, green, and welcoming place to live
