Cllr Amanda Barnes-Andrews has represented Bitterne Park ward since 2023 and is the Cabinet Member for Children and Learning.
Amanda is a retired primary school teacher and a proud grandparent. She is an enthusiastic choir member and also helps to run a small local charity that organises outings for older people. These experiences reflect her lifelong commitment to supporting others and building stronger communities.
A long-standing member of the Labour Party, Amanda is passionate about ensuring fair and equal opportunities for everyone in Southampton, particularly children. With her professional background in education, she understands the crucial role learning plays in unlocking opportunities and giving young people the best possible start in life.
Amanda is keen to listen to residents’ concerns and believes that even small changes can make a real difference to people’s everyday lives. She is especially eager to see the long-awaited regeneration of Townhill Park delivered, providing better housing and opportunities for the community.
For Amanda, being a councillor is about working alongside residents, championing their needs, and ensuring that Southampton is a city where families can flourish and all people feel supported
