Cllr Gordon Cooper represents Bitterne Park ward and serves as Chair of the Labour Group and Chair of the Licensing Committee. He also recently chaired a council inquiry into the impact of gambling harms in the city, a subject on which he continues to campaign passionately. Gordon has lived in Southampton for more than twenty years and knows the city and its communities well. His professional background is varied — having worked as a teacher, charity worker, BBC producer and senior university lecturer in media. This broad experience has shaped his strong belief in fairness, public service and the value of local democracy. He is a responsive and active councillor, committed to representing residents and promoting the interests of Bitterne Park at council level. Alongside his ward colleagues, Gordon plays a key role in the Townhill Park regeneration project, ensuring residents’ views are heard and building constructive relationships with developers. Gordon also serves on the Southampton Airport Consultative Committee,helping to monitor the airport’s impact on local communities. Above all, he is dedicated to ensuring that Bitterne Park continues to be a great place to live, work and raise a family.
